How to setup the right amount of boost ?
How to setup the right amount of boost ?
Hi ,
I got a turbotech manual boost controller (eBay) and was wondering how to set it to run 9psi - 10psi..
I got an external boost gauge and it says, 0 ||||| 0.5 ||||| 1.0 ||||| 1.5(BAR)
Now zero is in the middle and it has -0.5 ||||| -1 at the bottom. Hope u understand what i mean...
when the car is on idle the needle sits on -0.5 (at the bottom of the gauge).
When turbo kicks in the needle shoots to 0.5(BAR), what does that mean? i thought the et's were stock 7psi ??
Now if i want to set the boost to 9 - 10psi (using a turbotech boost controller) where would the needle point ?? would it go above 0.5 (BAR) ??
Any info or tips would be appreciated..
And also if someone can explain the readings of these external boost gauges...
Thankyou

you have to drive it to check the boost
7psi = 0.48bar
10psi = 0.68bar
12psi = 0.82bar
can i ask why you have a boost guage which reads in Bar if you cant understand it?. I asked my mate the same thing when he bought it. He always sits there converting it in his to understand what it means. i said why have bar if you gotta convert it in your head while driving

i have a turbotech, they are really good. but they only take a small adjustment to make a big difference in boost. start by undoing the nut, then turn the bolt clockwise (ie tighten it,) about 1/4 of a circle if that, then tighten the nut back up and go for a drive. if it boosts too high then turn it anti clock wise, if to low then tighten it more. remember only small adjustments
good luck. deffinately a great buy.

ok , ive got an intercooler 600*300*76 , hopefully a T25G will settle in the engine bay.. SOOOON
And also i took the overboost valve out and plugged it.. (SEALED IT)
Now, Panda_Et , would u be kind enough to tell me whats a right boost gauge i have to get , and also a pic would really help...
And also when i install the turbotech and drive it(LOAD) to check the boost level , do i have to floor it ??? If yes would that damage the motor ???
Obviously i will have to do it couple of times to check it out ..
thanx guys

When you put the controller on your car, make sure it is at its lowest setting. Go for a drive and you should see that it is at 7psi or so. You WILL have to floor it to get the boost up. If you want more boost, all you gotta do is wind it up a small amount, go for another drive to test it. Once again you will need to floor it to see what it is at.
Keep on moving it up slowly to your disired setting. If you hear any irregular noises, STOP, wind the boost back a notch and keep it there.
