Is it possible that the factory overboost valve could leak?

Post by NZLeprix »

The reason I ask is that when under full power, my boost guage flickers.. reads approx 7psi, but its flickering, so could be anywhere between 6.5-7.5psi.. what could cause this? I have replaced the boost guage and have the same result.. is it possible that its from that overboost valve thing on intake manifold?

I think this can happen when the line to the gauge is too small or kinked??

or made out of plastic, or a crappy gauge. try putting a valve that you can find in the windscreen washers line. i put one in myn and stopped the flickering all together.

i swapped my over boost valve with a $2 bung from Banner cause it was leeking and not allowing me to spool over 10psi.

save your time and just buy a bung and take the over boost valve off. only one way to see if it was leaking.

Dude, it wasn't leaking. It was doing what it's supposed to, stop overboost. They open at around 10psi.

It is possible to get a higher rated valve if you wanted one for piece of mind. I Used to have a 15psi one, untill i started boosting past that :D

Ahhh, I see now....

Yeah, do without it, but don't do it without a boost guage!
