Tuning Microtech ECUs

Post by Matt »

How would I go about giving home tuning a go?

First off I need cold start, then I'll see how I go from there

I wouldn't be able to copy someone elses settings would I? eg: Having different sized injectors etc.?

Some people seem to say its easy, while others are saying make sure you go to a qualified tuner...

Or should I just give home tuning a miss?

You really need to utilise having a dyno. That way you are able to tune it alot more acurately. Get a good tune done dude. There is no point in just doing it from road tests, you will probably be able to get 10% more power out of it on the dyno also.

And if you get it wrong, BOOM. All your dreams gone  (worst case scenario)

What kind of engine mods have you got, and what type of Microtech?
I can get hold of the base maps for most Microtechs, and i'm sure they'd have cold start mapping

Renegade,

I am in a similar situation. Ive got a MT-8 and want to get cold start inrichment working. But im also after a copy of the software. I have a hand controller but i think its a bit hard to tune with it. So if someone has a copy of the laptop software, that would be awesome!!!!!!

Which is one of the reasons I decided not to go Microtech. They have their hand out for more money all the time.

Mods are: T28 turbo
RX7 FMIC
Bosch 540cc injectors
Air pod filter
Microtech lt8 with handset
3 inch exhaust turbo back
Turbosmart type 1 blow off valve
Vl Fuel pump
Turbosmart boost tee boost controller

For the base maps to be of any use I would need some sort of Dongle or laptop set-up wouldn't I? Or can this be used through the handset?

Yep, what he said.

The handset is just a little more time consuming in my opinion.

You need the dongle if you are running the laptop software.
I'll ask my mate about the handset, I've never had an LT8

yes you can use the handset on lt computers, and they can store up to 3 maps, so you can just load it on, easy as. However the base maps will be of no use to you, you injectors are way to big, if would just fuel like a mofo.

I went to speak to a performance shop here about getting my mt8 tuned when i finish the engine and the guy there told me that the mt8 cannot be done on his laptop coz its too old (ie the mt8) and tuning with a handset is way more time consuming (and therefore he might not even consider tuning it) . Apparently with a newer version (like lt8) he has everything already saved to the laptop and he just hooks it up and does it all for him in about 15 mins on the dyno! What do u guys think? is there really no way of doing an Mt8 on a laptop?

AFAIK, MT series ECU's are not laptop programeable.

The handpeice is easy as to use. The guy you are speaking to is a wanker. Go elsewhere regardless of his reputation.
Anybody who reckons he can do a tune in 15 minutes is pulling himself to peices.

The generice turbo 4 cylinder map loaded into any Microtech setup for a Nissan turbo will run the car quite happily.

Pity you guys are not in southern tassie, Id do yout tunes for you for nothing.
