{OS Giken} High Performance heavy duty Clutches {OS Giken}

Post by Rohan 84ET »

I am soon to be buying a new clutch, and wanna get a heavy duty one, not so extreme that its on or off, but just heavy enuf for good launches on street use, drags etc. so pretty damm heavy.

i was looking at the NPC ones but i wanna go different and spend a "tad" more on a OSGiken model, just wondering whether any of the clutches on their main page would be suitable, or would i have to inquire about their "one off" production for special needs.

heres the link to there distributor in AUS.

thanx all. appreciate it.

It's gonna be a hard call, you need to have driven a car with something like a NPC in it and if you figure you need a bit more clamping then find out the pressure of the NPC and find something at OSG that suits. I'm not sure on the driveability of the OSG ones either, maybe a call to the shop would be in order and tell 'em what you're after. Prolly good to have an idea of how strong you want it when you call them too.

I think when Renegade said they are digital, he means they are either on or off. Nothing inbetween. I've ridden in a SR20 powered car with a 4puck brass button clutch and you either had to get some wheelspin or your bunnyhopping/stalling it. Pretty hard to drive and i wouldn't really put one in a daily driven car.

fair enough, so whats the deal with those OSGiken ones being twin plate, triple plate and quad plate? is that for different cars, different heavyness, or durability?

and this is what OS Giken sent back to me, in response to my e-mail.

"OS Giken do not make anything for the N12."

So thats that i guess, kinda strange when they have this written on their main page,

"For street and racing use, OS Giken can take special orders for one-off products to satisfy your specific needs. Please contact us for details."

hrmm, well thats ten out of ten for customer service fellas

Is there any real reason why you 'wanna go different and spend a "tad" more' than a NPC clutch?

The only drawback I can see is getting it shipped from QLD to SA?

no real reason apart from my mate having one in his skyline and he thrashes the crap outta it almost every day (drifting) and its lasted a very very long time so far. and just felt like being different.

but i guess now NPC is the way to go. their heavy duty clutches go for about $300 yeah? what clutch in particular do you guys recommend from NPC?

Geezuz guys - brass button? is this necessary under 200kW? Bloody hell!

Their 1.5lt and FWD.....A heavy duty Excedy is more than enough. A standard RPM clutch is great on 10psi with a T25 (mine) never slips but i haven't run my autocross yet....plety of guys run on standard clutches there anyway. If you are track racing and its tight on off then maybe a 'super' heavy duty might be worth its weight.....but we had one in a silly-ca running a GT4 motor (3sGTE) my brother had....was an ARSEH*LE to drive around town....easy to stall, shudders on take off and this was a 210kw FWD (not 4WD). Chewed gearboxes. I say keep the clutch as your sacrafical link, its far cheaper than a new gearbox, CV joints and diff.... or even worse a blown motor due to transmitted stresses.

thats my 2 cents

yeah, well brass button wasnt my pick of choice, i just want a fairly heavy duty NPC clutch now, one heavy enuf to never have to worry about slipping, to be able to achieve great launches, but not so heavy as to jerk around like mad in car parks.
