Ever since I bought my 1985 et pulsar, I thought the alternator was dodgy.
- When you put your foot on the brake, you could hear the fuel pump slowing down
- When you switched the headlights on, you could hear the fuel pump slowing down alot and the engine would sometimes stall
-When boosting hard at higher revs, the engine misfires alot.
- The wipers are fucking slow.
Anyway today I decided it was finally time to buy a new alternator.
So I got one, swapped it over, started the car, tested stuff - and absolutely no difference!! wtf!
So after getting pissed off with the car, I had a good look at the wiring under the hood and realised again that whoever wired the car up is an idiot. From the battery, there was only one wire going from negative - and this went to the engine block - and from there, 1 or two thin wires went elsewhere.
Anyway long story short - I added a nice black beefy wire from the battery neg. terminal to the chassis rail ... and oh my god!
- The headlights are brighter! (Thought my night vision was slowly getting worse)
- No more misfiring at high revs! Car pulls harder than ever before!!
- Fuel pump still slows down abit with headlights going on, but not as much!
- No more stalling when the headlights are switched on!
- wipers are still fucking slow though ah well I will turn up the boost... maybe that will help..
I wish I had thought to try this before I tried a new alternator... now I have a spare alternator... anyone need one?
