I bought a car with rego, but unbeknowst to me had a canary

What does one do in a situation like this?

I'm in the process of fixing a list of things for a RWC so I can transfer the registration. A cop pulled me over for driving an unregistered car.

Do I have to cop it sweet? Whats the point of a canary sticker if its not on their and I dont know about it. All I knew was that it did have rego till October.

I Made it clear to the seller the rego was the main reason for me purchasing

bad luck mate, might be a silly question, but did you check the rego papers when you bought the car? Id be going back to pay the seller a visit, and get them to pay the fine.
