Thanks Baz, i've bought most of the things you mentioned. I'll probably fix the brakes and get the car registered, and then take off the gearbox, flywheel and clutch to look at the rear main.

that sounds like the same problem i'm having at present with my exa - ultra low idle at 560rpm and a terrible squeal from the alternator belt when taking off. i've got a blown manifold gasket so maybe that is the reason?

finally got around to rebuilding the rear calipers, god they were filled with an almost unimaginable amount of crap! need a new master cylinder now, as the car is not safe to drive anymore... so many things to do, so little money given that rego had to be paid on the exa last night

harmonic balancer fun

replaced the harmonic balancer on the exa, as the old one was visibly wobbling, and making a great squealing sound, but the new one still makes a slight squeal every now and then. the new one was in excellent condition, any idea as to what i can try looking at to fix this?
