Coolant- best type? And flushing old radiators. Bad idea?

Hi all, Decided that its about time i drained and replaced my coolant as its been in there since i got the car, and is of unknown age. Looked in the factory manual- it just says 5.5 litres of coolant fit in the system.. No mention of the specs to use. At Repco, theres dozens of different types, from...

Lol. ironically i was offered that entire gumtree car for free if i was able to get it off the original owner's storage property a few months ago :( Didnt have the space or time at that stage though :(- Exams were in full swing. The exa/ET hybrid look is pretty sweet!- i really like it- thanks for t...

EXA front end on an ET. Easily Doable? Or a nightmare?

I'm thinking of trying to install an exa front end (bonnet, guards, lights etc) on my ET. I think the lot should fit as a straight bolt on, bar the lights, which may need some tinkering and extra switches for the 'pop up'.. Assuming they fit in the available space that is. Has anyone done this befor...

Slightly off topic tho, but the master cylinder ön an N/A pulsar is identical to an ET/prairie, yes? A lot of other parts are too. May pay to get an old n12 n/a as a dönor car for $100 or so.. I often raid the old wreck thats at a mates place which used to be his sister's daily til she crashed it mu...

Lol. The colours make sense now.. I always thought that it had something to do with you being in a creative profession. The prairie is probably the most unique project ön here.. Will be great to finally hear about when it gets registered! The rough operation/no power when on boost under load could b...

1. The thin black wire from the coil sounds like its the wire hanging off the condenser/power transistor at the top of your spark coil at the right hand side of the engine bay- that plugs into a connector at the side of the distributor from memory- mine fell out when i was fiddling around getting th...

"there is a leak from between the bell housing and rest of the gearbox" ah-ha. that may not be as serious as you think. On mine, there is a slight leak in the CV shaft seal on one side, so a bit of gearbox oil comes out and a big drip tends to form on the join between the bell and the gear...

No, that 3L figure didn't include the oil filter, but the filter itself whould not really hold all that much- they arent very big! i would guess 200ml at most, but not much dripped out of mine when i removed it anyhow. (maybe 50ml?)

Oil types to use and dipstick accuracy

Hi, Did my first oil change since i got the car on sat now since its up and running now, and was astounded to find that only about *three litres* of oil actually drained out of the engine. Is this about right? The manual says 3.7l for a dry fill. I was expecting a difference on drain, but maybe 5% o...

Just an update- The problem was with the control rod- the bushings on the transaxle side of the rod were totally slogged out and loose as a goose.. Wouldn't have thought that a little bit of play would make such a difference, but it does! Changed the rod, and everything is sweet- reverse works again...

yep, true i can hear it clanking and clinking a fair bit when changing gear. The weak plastic "stopper collar" on the linkage side is also cracked and broken- however, watching it while the stick is moving about, the 'stopper" doesn't seem to stop, or do anything at all for that matte...

Bugger. That will be a job for another day then when the leak irritates me enough then. Really want to put the car through a few weeks of driving round my town first to discover any other major hidden problems with the engine etc. Ok, so they are easy to get, and under $30 from burson or suchlike th...

excellent news there then :) Is there much chance they could have come off the current seals? or does the seal need to basically be destroyed and shredded for the tension spring to come out of the seal? (i did not replace them as they weren't damaged or deformed looking) I have *slight* leakage comi...

Lol. previous owner strikes again then.... :S yeah, there are signs they were playing around with it at some stage- rubber boot in console undone etc.. There does seem more play in the gearstick towards 1st/2nd than towards rev/5th. The bent bit is on the linkage side, not the box side of the rod to...

Box issue- No reverse. Linkage?

New box is in, everything is connected up, mounts are secure and tight.. gears 1-5 go in nicely. Slight problem of not being able to reverse out of the driveway however.. When trying to engage reverse gear, it feels like there is something stopping the gearstick going into the appropriate bottom cor...
