there is a little tip i was told to do when fitting a new gasket. Once its all back together and ready to start up again, turn the engine on before adding any coolant and let it run for about 2-3 minutes (no longer!) - this apparently helps the new gasket 'seal' around the edges. Anyone else heard o...

na brake booster should'nt make a difference - with the g'box and mounts off, preferrably take out the radiator to avoid damaging, and disconnect everything else around it so that the engine kinda 'swings' while hooked onto the chain (you'll need a crane/pully of some kind) hope that helps..

What work were they (mechanics) doing to it? possibly due to lean/incorrect mixtures, too much boost, old age (how long since u changed them?). Just some ideas.

jack the car up pretty high and take the box out from underneath - make sure you support it with a jack though to prevent it hanging on the shaft..

oil level is fine - you guys sure about this turps idea? anyone ever tried this? i mean that oil is going to thin to pretty much nothing, and besides, solvents always leave a slight residue afterwards which will mix with the next lot of oil. What about the engine flush products you can just buy..? t...
